To the Editor:

Your April 4 editorial " Calling Radicalism by Its Name " is a breath of truth and a dose of reality. In President Obama's speech the day before, he sounded like the man millions of us voted for in 2008. Dare we think that the compromiser has changed back into the idealist in whom many of us saw such hope?

The Republican budget proposal and likely "platform" should help the president win back the independents, women, students, minorities and many of the nonrich who have drifted away from him. May he listen to the wisdom of Harry S. Truman, who said: "I never give them hell. I just tell them the truth and they think it's hell."
